running ET on a Linux

Postby l1r1cAs » 03 May 2013, 18:52

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if there's someone in ETc who plays ET on a Linux. I set up my Linux last week and I was finally able to get ET working again.... But still, I'm not very happy, a lot of things do not work as expected.
For example the weapon-shortcuts (numbers) do not work/work sometimes/ after pressing several times. It's very annoying since I'm unable to play like I'm used to.
Another issue is that once I have ET running, I cannot do anything except ET, I cannot change music, use Linux-shortcuts or just normally minimize ET.
But most importantly, sound is not working at all! Does anyone have ideas how to fix these problems?

Since I'm pretty new to Linux (I have Linux Mint installed) any help would be appreciated a lot!

See ya ingame!

Better install win, yes its bit weird to play et whit linux, but ofc u got a lot more fps whit linux. Or just play 3-6 months whit linux and its allmost fine. And ofc ur lucky if u have sound, if not then google and u find instructions. Whit linux u have few prog, where u can play windows games, like wine. But wine have conflict whit pb.... . Pb dont support this progs. This wepon, hmm yes there was something but atm i dont remember how i fixed it. Or just use slower gameplay if u playng whit linux xd. i had ubuntu. If u dont have sound @ all then isntall souncard. Maybe u can install it if u look updates or system stuff. Never used mint but i think its like ubuntu. And ofc u can look and ask help (commands). http://forums.linuxmint.com/ Its not so easy to learn linux as u can learn win. And ofc as usualy, sry for my bad english.

l1, your keyboard problems are weird. Does it also happen if you switch to us keyboard layout before?
Code: Select all
setxkbmap us

Easiest way to minimize et is to use the etswitch tool.

ET: Legacy lets you bring down console and use the minimise button if you're playing in window...If you're in proper full screen you can alt+tab out.

Yeah etlegacy might be an option! I checked it out today, but found performance and graphics issues (at least on my system), so I stay with etwolf & etswitch, although I hate that

To be honest, it does on my system. But these guy do a lot of updates etc. Suppose as long as ET works that's the main thing.
